Mabon- the Autumnal Equinox, Second Harvest, and Witches’ Thanksgiving. On this night we will observe how we reap what we sow. Our ritual will honor the Egyptian Deities Sopdet, personification of the star Sirius and the bringer of the Nile floods which nourish the fields, and Sah, personification of the constellation Orion and lord of the underworld. We will ask them to help us get things in order before we journey to the underworld at Samhain and conclude with a working to call the rains for the season to come.

As part this celebration of harvest and renewal, please bring a non-perishable food donation to be given to a local organization.

Feel free to bring drums, rattles, shakers, and anything you wish to charge on the altar as well as clearly labeled snacks, food or drink to share. See our website for more information and directions to the ritual space.

* CESAR CHAVEZ MEMORIAL SOLAR CALENDAR – BERKELEY MARINA (directions below)

* Ritual will begin at 8:00, but please arrive promptly at 7:30 since the solar calendar is a few minutes walk from where you will park.

* $10

We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean, but the ocean would be less because of that missing drop.

- Mother Teresa

CAYA’s summer solstice ritual this year will honor the Greek Deities Selene, the Moon, and her brother Helios, the Sun. We will be honoring the life-giving power of the Sun and the healing energy of the Moon and doing a community working to heal the ocean and all waters. This ritual will be enjoyable, family-friendly, educational, participatory, and respectful. Please do join us as we turn the wheel of the year one more notch and combine our energies in creating positive change which will benefit all.

Please feel free to bring drums, rattles, shakers, and anything you wish to charge on the altar. Please also feel free to bring clearly labeled snacks, food or drink to share. Please do not bring alcoholic beverages in their original containers, nor any glass bottles, to this ritual.

We encourage participants to dress in the colors of the ocean, but please dress warmly and bring extra layers as we will be outdoors and the breeze off the water can get very chilly in the evening. If you wish to be seated, please bring a lawn chair or blanket. Unfortunately this space is not accessible to wheelchairs or other mobility devices.

Driving Directions:
Drive toward the Berkeley Marina on the University Avenue extension. At the end of the extension take a right at the fork and follow that road all the way to the end at the traffic circle. Park along the road just before the traffic circle and someone will be there to greet you.

If you have any questions, please let us know.  We look forward to sharing this ritual with you!

CAYA South Bay Spring Equinox Ritual – Sunday, March 28th 2010

Come As You Are Coven South Bay welcomes you to our…

Spring Equinox Ritual Celebration

A ritual for All
Sunday, March 28th 2010
First Unitarian Church of San Jose
160 North 3rd Street, San Jose, CA 95112

$10 donation

Doors open at 5pm. Ritual begins at 5:15 PM sharp
(no one admitted once the circle is cast.)

The Spring Equinox is a time of balance and of honoring the blossoming life that bursts all around us.

CAYA South Bay welcomes you to join us in this celebration by honoring the Aztec Goddess, Xochiquetzal; she of love, beauty, sexuality, flowers and the arts. The Goddess is said to be continually surrounded by butterflies and hummingbirds and it is this beauty and growth that we are reminded of as Spring takes on her full force. Our Priestess of Sacred Dance, Humminbird Rainbow, as a dedicant of Xochiquetzal, will be leading us in honoring Her through song and dance that will bring luck and prosperity. We will also be working with Gou-Mang, a Chinese messenger of the Sky God. He is a bringer of springtime and happiness and with his lessons we will examine the balance in our own lives.

Please bring fresh flowers, drums, rattles, shakers and any items you would like to charge on the altar.

Blessed Be!

Ostara, named after the Goddess of springtime, is the celebration of the Spring Equinox. This is the time when day and night are equal in length and springtime really begins in earnest. During this Sabbat we will welcome a renewal of joyful creativity in our lives with dance and song. At our ritual we will be experiencing the cleansing waters of the spring rain as well as opening and newfound freedom by honoring Kuan Yin, who represents compassion and forward movement, and Ganesha, the remover of obstacles.

During this Sabbat we also celebrate the Ordinations of our newest priestesses and priests. Please join us in officially welcoming them into their new role in the community after their year and a day of training and service.

We welcome everyone who wishes to bring hard boiled and decorated eggs to share on the alter. These eggs will be distributed during the dancing so please only bring eggs that you are willing to part with. “HANDLESS is an original re-invention of the folk-tale, The Handless Maiden. Written & directed by ensemble member Amy Sass, HANDLESS is a tale about growth, both violent and gradual. It is about the passage from self-pity to perseverance. Set in a mythic time, a father unwittingly bargains away his daughter, Grace, to the Taker. When it comes time to collect, a random act of cruelty alters the girl’s future forever. With the loss of her hands, Grace must discover how to heal her self and to reclaim some faith in her future. HANDLESS explores the journey toward womanhood through the lens of loss.”

“Join us in welcoming nationally known pagan folk-rock artist SJ Tucker to the Sacred Well!

So many of us in the store are big fans, and we’re sure you will be as well! SJ Tucker provides musical storytelling at its myth-punk finest. She weaves deft guitar work and unforgettable melodies around poetic lyrics. Many of her compositions evoke mythic lore and faerie tales, respun for modern ears. Critics describe her music as the perfect mix of witty and weighty, and she takes listeners on a fantastic, genre-hopping ride with just her voice, her guitar, and occasionally a drum.

Fans of all ages come to see SJ Tucker for more than just the stories she weaves into her songwriting – her musical talents are second to none. Not confined to one type of song or another, SJ spans opera, chant, and rockergrrl, employing deft guitar hands and the bluesy, powerful voice of a 300lb gospel singer – finely contained in a petite frame which earned her first band the name ‘Skinny White Chick’ by accident. An incredibly prolific writer, she has composed over 130 original songs and independently produced six full-length studio albums.

CDs and other merchandise will be available for sale.”

We were so happy to have the sublime s00j join us for CAYA’s Wake Up To Spirit Ritual at PantheaCon.  It’s a real privilege to have her with us in the Bay Area this month.  Please come and shower her with love and adulation!  (And buy her CDs!)

“Connie is an initiated healer and spiritual mentor who has changed the lives of many by helping them to heal in body, mind, and spirit; and to spirit their life and their life’s work with meaning and purpose. As Director for The Spirited Medicine Alliance, a nonprofit with global outreach, Connie works to unite the science of the Western World with the spirit of the indigenous world to create health and wellness for people and the planet.”

“Jungle Medicine tells the story of how my gradual disillusionment with my chosen profession, and a series of life-upheavals, including an extreme medical crisis—cancer—unexpectedly plunged me into profound and disturbing states of consciousness, encounters with the spirit world, and to my involvement in the healing arts of shamanism. During my apprenticeship to a powerful Amazon rainforest shaman, and in the course of my own peculiar ordeal, I learned deeper spiritual truths of healing which my previous medical training failed to provide. I also realized that the wealth of vital healing wisdom which the shamanic tradition offers could be combined with the technological wizardry of modern Western medicine to create a new paradigm of healing and health that encompasses the physical, mental, and spiritual domains.”

A Musical Journey from Dante’s Divine Comedy
Sunday, February 28, 7:30PM

Saint Alban’s Episcopal Church
1501 Washington Avenue, Albany

$15-$20

www.numinacenter.org/Dante-Albany.htm

“In The Divine Comedy, Dante describes a path of compassionate revelation that culminates in an Earthly Paradise where deepest longings are answered. Dante weaves together Greek myth, Italian history, and Western legends into a map that charts this human journey. Numina Center for Spirituality and the Arts is happy to present an evening of music and story that guides us through Dante’s poetic landscape.

The evening begins with a talk by cultural historian Kayleen Asbo on The Divine Comedy, illustrated with artwork by Botticelli, Doré, Dali, and Rossetti. We then embark on a musical version of the journey, drawing from many of the sacred and secular Medieval sources Dante mentions in his poem. Musical sources range from Hildegard von Bingen and Francesco Landini to the troubadours, the original Carmina Burana, Cantigas de Santa Maria, and Italian Lauda. Our narrator and guide is renowned poet and translator Anita Barrows, speaking in Italian and English.”
